My Transition to IT

I’m excited to report that this week I was offered a position as a software engineer/developer for the company I work for! Up until now I’ve been working in the operations and customer service segments of my company and I’ve been doing web application development on overtime for projects. Now I’ll be able to focus on technology full time in a position dedicated to supporting software on multiple platforms.

I’m looking forward to the opportunity to utilize my experience with Linux/Unix platforms on a daily basis. I use Ubuntu Linux exclusively on all my computers at home, so I’ll be right at home working on that platform in my new role. I’m also looking forward to learning more about shell scripts, Perl, and SQL stored procedures, which I will be working with regularly.

I’ll be starting my new role on December 1st, so I’ll make sure to keep this blog updated with my experiences in this major transition.
