Hello, Castaway!

Back in October, I began work on a side project that I was really excited about. My goal was to relive the excitement and fascination of text-based roleplaying that I had experienced in my youth. Real life inevitably got in the way, however, and my work on the project slowed down.

This week, I planned to resume my work on the project. It just so happens, however, that this is also the week I found out about Storium. It's a project with fantastic potential, and it looks like it will handily cover everything that I was wanting to do with In Character. Instead of continuing my work, I backed Storium on Kickstarter and I'm eagerly looking forward to beta access.

So, with this side project coming to a close, I decided to turn my attention to another project idea that I've had for a while. I love podcasts, both listening and creating. Producing a podcast is hard, though. There are a lot of details to keep track of and it can get overwhelming very quickly. I've long wanted a great tool to easily manage the creation of a podcast. I want to collect topics, schedule shows and guests, and make the experience of creating and participating in a podcast go much more smoothly. I'm calling the project Castaway.

This idea has been bouncing around in my head for years, and I've had a couple of false starts with it in the past. Kenneth Love has helped with previous iterations, and is responsible for some of the great ideas I'm planning on building. I'm ready to dig in and finally make this idea a reality, and I'll be keeping it free and open source so that anyone else who loves the idea can help make it awesome.

As before, I'll keep this blog up to date with details about the implementation of the project, sharing what I'm planning and what I've learned along the way. Thanks for reading!
